"The very fundamental issue is, they don't know where the hell they're going," said retired Marine Gen. John J. "Jack" Sheehan, a former top NATO commander who was among those rejecting the job. Sheehan said he believes that Vice President Cheney and his hawkish allies remain more powerful within the administration than pragmatists looking for a way out of Iraq. "So rather than go over there, develop an ulcer and eventually leave, I said, 'No, thanks,' " he said."
"They don't know where the hell they're going?" He's talking about the President and Vice President here! So this Sheehan guy, he ain't no faggot or Democrat. In fact, I probably wouldn't like him if I met him. He has military industrial complex written all over his resume:
General John J. Sheehan, USMC (Ret.)
General Sheehan is a Senior Vice President and Partner with Bechtel International, a private family owned International Engineering, Procurement and Construction Company. His current assignment is as the General Manager of the Petroleum and Chemical Business Unit for Europe/ Africa/Middle East/South West Asia. He joined Bechtel in 1998 after serving 35 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. His last active service posts were NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT) and Commander in Chief U.S. Atlantic Command (CINCUSACOM). After retirement in November 1997, he served for two US Secretaries of Defense as their Special Adviser for Central Asia. He currently serves on the U.S. Department of Defense Policy Board. - biography from the Institute for Foreign Policy.
So nobody wants this job. I for one, as an American citizen, don't believe this job is something the President has a right to create. And the Generals who are being offered show no respect to the President and Vice President for the offer.
"They don't know where the hell they're going?" ...son of a bitch.
