After the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the election of 1932, America made major progressive economic advances in our society. The Great Depression had brought Wall Street and the Republican Party to its knees and rendered it powerless.
President Roosevelt and The New Deal saved the nation and made it the greatest country on earth by unleashing the power of a middle class.
Ever since 1945, the forces of evil, corporate, Republican conservatism have lied, cheated and assassinated its way back into dominance, only to bring the nation to its knees once again by destroying our constitution, perverting our electoral system and ruining our economy.
Our enemies through World War Two and the Cold War couldn't inflict this much damage on the United States.
Now, we have a chance again. The Republican Party, conservatism and the right are on their knees begging for a hand-out. We can reach a hand out to them, but we should take the reigns from them and regulate their power. Stymie their economic retching and manage the economy and the nation from a progressive, compassionate and liberal middle class power base.
We have a road map...

All we have to fear, is fear itself.
Well spoke if slightly partisan. There are worse names to be called! ;>)
I've been saying for years that we need to bring back some of those programs tied to welfare. In the current moment they may come back tied to a stark reality.
But our politicians aren't about stark realities at all, they are about campaigning more than anything, with placating the masses the greatest chore of the campaign.
We won't take a hit this time, markets will settle and life will go on as we know it.
For a while.
When the real hit comes it will be extreme, beyond the depression of the '20's & 30's. The difference now is that the people are so soft, so accustomed to air conditioning, their Starbucks and the comforts of life. That will all change quickly and dramatically and many will be totally unprepared.
Cheery thoughts, I know.
May peace be with us all!

As I said somewhere else the other day. Our parents and grandparents has two world wars and the Great Depression to temper them.
We are just babes in the woods and not literally or mentally prepared for what is coming.

Agreed.
Our kids our soft brats.
When gallon bottles of Pepsi are not readily available during all night Wii sessions, there will be hell to pay.
