What Do Republicans Want?

In light of the total lack of bipartisan support of President Obama in the Republican Party and their media, what do Republicans want?

Let's assume that they are not all nuts (with the exception of Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC... that's double XX to you) and the legendary Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) ... well okay, they are ALL nuts or why would they still be in the Republican Party (see Senator Arlen Specter (R D-PA)...  let's agree that Republicans are interested in doing what is best for their constituents. (I even have trouble buying that, but for argument sake...)

Why the hate?

There does not seem to be a rational plan coming from the Republicans in the face of what is obviously a crisis, a national crisis and a world crisis. They are not arguing over the facts and figures or even the political philosophy of President Obama's plan. They are just trying to tie him and the Democratic Party in knots for ... what?

Why?

Hate. Hate is the only answer. You see it on TV every night and hear it on the radio every day. The Republicans represent hate in everything they do. Every word, every thought and every action is filled with hate. And they have control of the airwaves and even though they don't control the legislative votes, they manage to control the argument in America's living rooms and cars.

The Republican Party, along with their long list of spectacular failures, have destroyed political debate and discourse in America.

President Obama is trying to bring it back and he has been very patient, but we can't go on like this pretending the Republican Party is a legitimate political entity. They are a bunch of nuts, dangerous nuts. Let's make them disappear in the elections of 2010 and 2012.

That is our only hope.

FDR's First 100 Days

"Roosevelt entered office at a time when fear and panic had paralyzed the nation..."

Real Presidents are given 100 Days to save us from ourselves. President Obama is in good comany:

- Passing the "largest" economic stimulus bill in American history.

- Ordering the closing of Guantanamo Bay military detention facility and abolishing "enhanced interrogation techniques."

- Setting a fixed timetable for withdrawing U.S. combat forces from Iraq.

- Ordering 21,000 additional troops to Afghanistan and enlisting, with modest new assistance, European allies in a new multi-layered strategy there and in Pakistan.

- "Returning science to its rightful place" by lifting the Bush restrictions on federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

- Signing laws to expand children's health insurance (financed by a 61-cent per pack increase in the federal cigarette tax the adviser did not tout).

- Signing a law meant to improve the ability of women who allege pay discrimination to sue their employer.

- Diminishing the role of lobbyists in the White House.

- "Forge a meaningful statement from the United Nations" criticizing North Korea's launch of a ballistic missile.

- Lifting travel and remittance restrictions for Cuban Americans who seek to travel more frequently to the island and send more US currency to their immediate family.

- Engaging world leaders in Europe, Turkey, Latin American and the Caribbean with "strength and humility."

Arlen Specter Changes Direction More Times Than The Magic Bullet

 

What makes Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) think anyone in the Democratic Party wants him to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate?

This guy is an on-again/off-again Democrat from the magic bullet that killed JFK, to Philadelphia DA, to Reagan's sock-puppet to a man without a Party.

He abandons his Party when the electorate fits him.

His Senate seat is not a life-long appointment. He chose to swim with the sharks in the swamp of Republican politics. That is where he should stay. If he were a real man, he'd go down swinging if that is his destiny, or try staying and changing the Republican Party from within.

Just because you see the writing on the wall for Republicans in 2010 and 2012 you now want to be a Democrat, again?

We'll get to 60 on our own, thank you...and then some.

You Fight Pandemics With The Preparedness You Inherited

Oh, this is precious.

So another legacy of the Bush, Jr./Republican Party rule is the swine flu strain that is attacking the world. Another perfect symbol of FAIL for Jr.'s Administration.

"When House Appropriations Committee chairman David Obey, the Wisconsin Democrat who has long championed investment in pandemic preparation, included roughly $900 million for that purpose in this year's emergency stimulus bill, he was ridiculed by conservative operatives and congressional Republicans.

Obey and other advocates for the spending argued, correctly, that a pandemic hitting in the midst of an economic downturn could turn a recession into something far worse -- with workers ordered to remain in their homes, workplaces shuttered to avoid the spread of disease, transportation systems grinding to a halt and demand for emergency services and public health interventions skyrocketing. Indeed, they suggested, pandemic preparation was essential to any responsible plan for renewing the U.S. economy.

But former White House political czar Karl Rove and key congressional Republicans -- led by Maine Senator Susan Collins -- aggressively attacked the notion that there was a connection between pandemic preparation and economic recovery..."

The real virus in America is the Republican Party. We should try to eliminate them in our lives by 2010. Total eradication by 2012.

Saturday Musings: 'Republican Proskynesis' Edition

Hello! Secretary of State Clinton showed up in Iraq and held a town meeting. It seems our new strategic bff's really could use the boost with the sting of bombings they have been experiencing lately.

Folks were brave just to show up to talk to the SoS. Good for them and good for her. This Democratic Administration is working overtime to bring peace and stability to the region and the world. It is fascinating to see America change course so rapidly. Maybe the rest of the world considers us frighteningly bi-polar, but they all must be relieved and hopeful by the Obama Adminstration.

Afghanistan is another story. It is pretty clear that the Bush, Jr. Administration lost the Afghanistan War and didn’t release the memo. Now the Obama Administration has to figure out how to prevent World War Three from becoming a reality. Go Hillary!

Big Al Gore ate himself some loony-toon Republican Congresswoman this week. Rep. Blackburn (R-TN) decided to accuse the 2000 Presidential Election winner of being interested and invested in climate control for financial gain. This is so lame. The Republican Congress has been humiliating itself before other Democrats lately in some self emulation ritual to ‘rile up their base’.

What base? There is no Republican base other than a few jerks and thieves left standing after the 2008 election. America first…not if they can help it.

Even Dick Cheney got into the action this week grumbling about Obama and the coloreds. He was dismissed as a disease-ridden old man who never saw his pipe dreams completely fulfilled...except by FOX News of course who prostrated before him.

So, under-reported in all this was President Obama’s smackdown of the Republicans still in Congress by reminding them that not one of them voted for his stimulus package, so why should he keep including them in anything he is doing...elections have consequences my fellow Americans.

Enough politics…it is a beautiful day outside and a family of red-headed finches and some hummingbirds have joined the green finches that have moved into the tree in my yard. The only ones more amused by them are the cats, of course.

On Earth Day I properly inflated my tires. Really.

Sometimes, my job takes me to large sound stages here in Los Angeles and the work we’re doing does not involve sound recording so we bring our own music. Kind of like whistling while you work. Someone was playing Herbie Hancock’s River- The Joni Letters. In a really big empty space with good speakers turned up really loud, this music was magical.

Been trying to read The Shameful Life of Salvador Dali by Ian Gibson. I wanted to find a big book about the painter who some in Spain considered a rival to Picasso at times. This book is what I categorize as a hate-biography. So much scholarly research wasted on hundreds of hateful pages. The shame lies with Gibson and his putrified book.

Dali was a fascinating genius who painted some of the best and very important and beautiful works of Surrealism. You would be better off just Googling Dali and looking at the paintings. Let the work speak for the man.

I will be revisiting Tawni O’Dell’s Pennsylvania soon. A friend has given me Sister Mine and Coal Run. I’ve had the itch to read these since reading her Back Roads last year.

A Family Of Ghouls That Are Getting Too Much Air-Time

First of all, this entire family has been on the government tit for way too long.

America has been cursed with Dick Cheney for decades, the big daddy himself. What else needs to be said about this psychotic bastard. This man should be in prison, tied down and face-masked like Hannibal Lecter.

Then there is Lady Macbeth, Lynn Cheney... has anyone ever asked her, under oath, about those two checks she wrote that were found in the bank account of one of the 9/11 highjackers? No?

And now we have the straight daughter, Liz defending torture. If there were a god in heaven, this nation would extraordinary rendition this woman's ass to Guantanamo and water-board her until she admitted Saddam Hussein and her were lovers.

And let''s not talk about the lesbian daughter with the turkey-baster grand kid. All the Rubyfruit Jungles in the world are not going to stop the tainted blood of Cheney from turning this kid into a raging, self-loathing C-word... Conservative.

The election is over. Obama is President. We gave you eight years to do whatever the fuck you wanted and you took full advantage of the privilege. Now please just go away.

With the troubles confronted by President Roosevelt at the hands of Republican mismanagement, and the heroic Executive action taken in his first 100 days, a benchmark was set for modern Presidents.

The Obama Administration is approaching its 100 days and the first in is Robert Reich. The hot and cold Secretary of Labor under President Clinton.

"An A on the budget, B on the stimulus, and F on the bailout."

Not only are there some cool books on the best sellers list, but... "Republican President Dwight Eisenhower calls for a huge spending program to end the U.S. recession. Eisenhower advocates civil works programs to improve the national park system and roads on Indian reservations; dams, flood control projects and other water programs; highway construction; and releasing money so Fannie Mae can buy up home mortgages."
