My first thought is that this is what Sarah Palin is headed towards - saddled with the inability to get elected and slightly out of favor with some powerful people in their parties, Sarah and Howard move on to being pitchpersons for that portion of their party's agenda. The difference being, of course, that Howard Dean has a brain that works along the economic and compassionate side while Sarah...not so much.
Universal healthcare is the key to a healthier economy. Without it, all else will have greater difficulty at success if indeed it is possible.
The brilliance of the Dem's plan is the public "option." As much as the bloviated Mr. Limbaugh and crowd may complain, once a public option is available at lower cost, business will flock to it. The "option" will become so widespread that it will become universal.
And I hadn't put together the concept of "bureaucrats" being in charge of private insurance before, but that is a powerful statement.
