It's National Book Week. Here is a game started by the Poisoned Pen Bookstore.
Grab the nearest book and turn to page 56. Then copy the 5th sentence. Post it to your blog, Facebook, etc. Don't mention the book's title.
The nearest book to me:
"Drain and chop mushrooms (save the water)"
Some other books lying around the house:
"I nearly bumped into several passersby and dashed to the curb, trying to avoid the rush-hour traffic, to wait for Owen's directions as to which route we would take: It was uptown by way of the Lexington Avenue express."
"He did not forget that night, even though Ellen, I think, did, since she washed it out of her remembering with tears."
"I was happy to receive from John Hancock an appointment as aide to General Israel Putnam... yes, I had gone over General Washington's head to the president of Congress."
"The nights were cool from the breeze that came across the banks and when the breeze fell it would be cool from the sea."
