Filmmaker Sidney Lumet has died at the age of 86. With over forty movies, and an amazing television career (14 Academy Award winning films), he was truly an 'actors' director'... some of the movies' greatest acting performances are in Lumet films.
No one shot New York City like Lumet, with films like Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Prince of the City...
But is wasn't all cops & robbers... Lumet was a genre buster, like fellow directors John Huston and Howard Hawks, sometimes I would be surprised during the credits of a movie and find myself saying... that's a Lumet film?
Some examples:
Fail-Safe
The Pawnbroker
Prince of the City
Network
Dog Day Afternoon
Night Falls On Manhattan
Serpico
Q & A
12 Angry Men
Deathtrap
The Wiz
