"When I say something the markets react, all of society reacts, other countries react. I've got to be careful with what I say. I can't just say it for brinkmanship. I've got to say it in a way so that I get what I want said, but I don't upset markets and so on." - President Obama
Thank you, Mr. President for making my point about you and the problems I have with your Administration.
If FDR felt the way you do about your job, America would have become a fascist state in the 1930s.
I can't imagine Teddy Roosevelt, for that matter, putting up with your interpretation of the bully pulpit.
Please upset the markets, pretty please. Was the "I'm the only thing standing between you and the pitch forks" line to Wall Street a made-up story?
If you got tough on the markets and indicted some Wall Street criminals and defended your campaign promises on health care instead of negotiating them away, then maybe you would not have to rely on the Republican Party nominating a total fool to run against you in 2012, as you only shot for a second term... and if this is your attitude for the rest of your Presidency, do the Democratic Party a favor ... hell, do America a favor and make your self a one-term President.
With all your thoughtfulness in the Oval Office... ponder this:
"I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made." - Franklin D. Roosevelt
I think the problem is the Fed, not the Prez. He's trying to save his own butt by not upsetting the markets. The Fed is quite happy to see government debt, as long as the interest on it is getting paid.
