Today is the 50th Anniversary of the death of William Faulkner.
A President mourned his passing.
Faulkner's novel Absolam, Absolam! has consistently been in my Top Ten Books list since I first read it 30 years ago.
Labelled a Souther Gothic novel, Faulkner weaves together a tale of three familes before, during and after the American Civil War.. and we see that war's lingering effects on the latest generation, the character Quentin Compson.
This Faulkner novel and Ernest Hemingway's short stories made me fall in love with solitary, contemplative reading.
