Surrealist artist Salvador Dali (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989) is to be honored this winter when 14 of his sculptures will be displayed in and around Courchevel, a French mountain ski resort... the exhibition aims to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Spanish artist's death.

In Philadelphia this past week, Dawn Smith’s mini van arrived at CIGNA’s headquarters and she was joined in the lobby by a group of nurses to ask the CEO why the insurance company had rejected her daughter’s brain tumor treatment needs. It wasn’t pretty and some CIGNA folks were seen looking down at them in the lobby and giving her the finger. Now that is bad karma.

Sonia Sotomayor saved American Baseball when she told the owners they couldn't lock-out the players and hire scabs. Of course Republicans see this as anti-American, but everyone else in real America cheered the decision.

A word should be said at the passing of Jack Kemp. Not the worst kind of Republican.
Now that isn’t much of an epitaph, but in light of what was coming after the Clinton Administration, we sure did do worse than having Jack Kemp to kick around a few more years.
Jack Kemp had one thing going for him. He was not born rich. In his early years he went amongst them. He had Jewish friends. He could throw a ball without looking like a sissy, something most Republicans can only dream of. He even met and liked black people.
He played pro football; interesting training ground for political office.
He served nine terms in Congress and gave us the Kemp-Roth tax cuts that helped usher in Reaganomics, or voodoo economics as Vice President Bush called it at the time.
President Reagan named Kemp (instead of Herman Goering) Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. America breathed a sigh of relief. At least we weren’t going to kill all the poor people during the Regan Revolution, not on Jack Kemp's watch.
Well, those tax cuts along with other Republican voodoo over the years landed us in the new Depression. That is not all Kemp’s fault. He just didn’t know any better. He tried as best he could to keep his hands clean in the world of crazy, blood thirsty Republicans.
Like I said, not the worst kind of Republican.
The best that can be said: He looked over his shoulder at the little guy. At least he acknowledged they existed.
We could have used his help during the Bush, Jr. years, but to be fair, nobody stood up to that Administration. They took no prisoners and I guess that was not Jack Kemp’s fight.
He died of cancer on May 2, 2009.

Stump even has the prerequisite near-death-experience-sob-story to go along with his victory.

Wow. The Phillies won the World Series. The last time that happened I was living in Philadelphia.
Pitcher Cole Hamels won the MVP Award.
It was a good night for Philadelphia. That city deserves a celebration. They have been through some hard times since 1980, the last time the Phillies won the World Series.
Way to go boys.
